Finance Park San Antonio: Building Financial Literacy for the Future
Finance Park San Antonio, an initiative of Junior Achievement of South Texas, is an experiential learning program designed to equip middle and high school students with the essential financial literacy skills needed to navigate the complexities of personal finance in the real world. This immersive, hands-on experience takes students beyond textbooks and theoretical concepts, placing them directly into simulated life scenarios where they make critical financial decisions.
Before visiting Finance Park, students participate in classroom-based curriculum focused on income, expenses, savings, credit, and investment. This pre-work lays the foundation for the simulation, providing them with the knowledge and understanding necessary to make informed choices during their time at the park. They learn about budgeting, the importance of saving, the responsible use of credit, and the potential benefits of investing.
Upon arrival at Finance Park, each student receives a unique life scenario, complete with a hypothetical job, salary, family situation, and credit score. Armed with this personalized information, students then embark on a four-hour simulation where they must manage their monthly finances, pay bills, make purchasing decisions, and plan for their future.
